1) India is a democracy.
Its only a name sake democracy. In true democracies, people have the right and the ABILITY to change the system.
In India, people have the right to vote, but that in no way, means the ability to change the system. Only players change in Indian politics. Policies and the people behind the power, don’t.
2) India is militarily powerful.
I think even most educated of Indians believe this. Many people take pride in the fact that India is a nuclear nation. I think its ridiculous.
Even Pakistan and North Korea have nuclear capabilites. That deosn’t mean that they are militarily powerful.
And there is no reason why each and every country in Europe as well as Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Iran and Mexico can’t became nuclear, if they seriously put the required effort and resource.
Also, Indian military didn’t win a convincing war against Pakistan as portrayed in Indian media and history books. Pakistan occupies 37% of Kashmir and China occupies nearly 25%. But King of Kashmir handed 100% of Kashmir to India.
In the NE front India lost the war with China. China retreated from those territories out of fear of USA & USSR, and not because of India’s military prowess.
3) India is just 1 decade behind China.
While living standard of Chinese and Indian people might be somewhat similar, China as a nation is at least 30-40 years ahead of India in terms of gender equality, infrastructure development and long term goals (like school enrollment among children, tackling malnutrition, urbanization etc.).
China as a nation is far far richer than India, but living standard of people is comparable.
4) Just because India is in BRICS, India is developing better than other nations.
Its not. India is not alone. Countries like Argentina, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Algeria, Angola etc. all have developed better than India in comparision at the same time from similar sort of position.
Poverty in Africa has halved in the 2 decades.
Heck even Bangladesh, Nepal and Rwanda have done better in comparision to India when it comes to poverty reduction.
